Perturbation of tunneling processes by mechanical degrees of freedom in mesoscopic junctions.

چکیده
We investigate the perturbation in the tunneling current caused by nonadiabatic mechanical motion in a mesoscopic tunnel junction. A theory introduced by Caroli et al.1–3 is used to evaluate second order self-energy corrections for this non-equilibrium situation lacking translational invariance. Inelastic signatures of the mechanical degrees of freedom are found in the current-voltage I(V ) characteristics. These give rise to sharp features in the derivative spectrum, d2I/dV 2. Electron transport in single-molecule junctions: Vibrational effects
Single-molecule junctions, i.e. molecules bound to metal electrodes, represent interesting systems to study nonequilibrium processes in molecules coupled to a condensed matter environment. Recent experimental and theoretical investigations of the conductance properties of single-molecule junctions have revealed a wealth of transport phenomena. An important aspect that distinguishes nanoscale mo...
متن کاملMesoscopic Simulation of Forced Convective Heat Transfer of Carreau-Yasuda Fluid Flow over an Inclined Square: Temperature-dependent Viscosity
In the current study, non-Newtonian flow pattern and heat transfer in an enclosure containing a tilted square are examined. In order to numerically simulate the problem, the mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann method is utilized. The non-Newtonian Carreau-Yasuda model is employed. It is able to adequately handle the shear-thinning case. The simulation results of flow and heat transfer have been ...
متن کاملTunneling in open quantum systems
Processes involving quantum tunneling can be found in a huge variety of physical and chemical systems, ranging in length from the mesoscopic scale of a few microns to the subatomic scale of a few fermi. It has been realized already three decades ago that thereby the interaction of the tunneling degree of freedom with environmental degrees of freedom plays a crucial role. Namely, any realistic d...

متن کاملNon linear response of a Kondo system : Time - dependent tunneling current
Non-equilibrium tunneling current in a Kondo system subject to both constant and alternating electric fields is studied. First, a time-dependent Schrieffer-Wolff transformation is performed, mapping the time-dependent Anderson Hamiltonian onto a Kondo one. Then, a perturbation expansion in powers of the coupling strength is carried out up to third order, yielding a simple analytical expression ...
